"For what?" I questioned.
"For letting me play the violin. It's really special to me. I just love playing the violin."
What a blessing! The last seven years flashed rapidly through my mind:
- taking him to lessons week after week after week. . .
- listening to the lessons when he was little
- making him practice
- listening to the practices and trying to help (ha! the kid knows so much more than me, it's not funny!)
- making charts to put up stickers when he practiced (when he was much younger)
- coming up with goals to earn by practicing (when he was younger)
- paying for lessons
- shopping for the progressively larger violins (which I really know nothing about)
- buying music
- listening to the frustration when something new was hard
- teaching him to overcome frustration and anger
- reminding him that it's been hard before and through hard work he got it last time--he will get this, too
- hearing him say he wanted to stop playing when he was ten (after four years of lessons) and telling him that's his choice, he just needed to finish the current year and if he didn't want to play next year, that was up to him
Receiving a heartfelt thanks and basking in his love for music: PRICELESS
How cool is THAT?! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat's really, really cool. What a fantastic kid (fantastic student, too--I really enjoy working with him!) :)
ReplyDeletelove it!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are in this wonderful place, too, right now! What a blessing to hear our kids say they love doing something we've nurtured for years alongside their efforts. Priceless, indeed. My R is a dedicated musician, too, and it does my heart good to hear her play her violin. Congratulations to Destry for sticking it out and excelling.
ReplyDeleteBrenna--and the similarities just keep adding up!! chuckle
ReplyDeleteYes, I found it really cool as well and didn't want to forget that moment!
Karen--we find you to be a "fantastic teacher" as well!! What a blessing you are--thank you for sharing your talents!
