Have you ever had someone pay you a "compliment", give you "encouragement", that felt more like a criticism, certainly of your past self? Some people need to learn how to apologize. Others need to learn how to encourage.
Let's say, for example, that someone says:
"Wow, you're looking good. You've lost a lot of weight and I can see that you've been working at that. Because you used to be so fat!"
That exact situation didn't happen to me, but it was comparable.
Ummmmm. . . .

Oh, that is lovely. It's one of those instances you cock your head to the side and wonder what life must be like in their little world. Huh? Thanks?
ReplyDeleteLOL I just can't help but chuckle a little. Sometimes I think we are just dying to tell someone what's wrong with them, even after they grow out of it, so those back-handed compliments scratch that itch.
